Growing Food for Dining Markets

In May, a plot of land in the Eagle Heights neighborhood on campus was repurposed in the name of sustainability and education. The land is home to the Dining & Culinary Services Campus Farm, where staff and students, including some in the GreenHouse Learning Community, bring very locally-grown food to Badgers’ plates from Gordon Avenue Market to Four Lakes Market.

Staff End-of-Semester Snow-cials

There are three remaining opportunities to catch up with coworkers before the holidays. Next week Monday, gather in the Symphony Room at Gordon on Monday from 2–3pm. On Tuesday, warm up in the Upper Gulley Program Room at Carson's from 2–3pm or 7:30–8:30pm. Enjoy time with colleagues who work in buildings near and far, and don't forget to take a fun group pic at the photo booth!

Phillips Renovation Begins in January

The construction project to improve resident rooms and common spaces on the first and second floors of Phillips Residence Hall will be starting in a few weeks. During this time, residents of the building will not be able to access first- and second-floor common spaces and classrooms, and the primary resident entrance will be the south entrance. Construction is anticipated to be completed by July 2024.

Dining Hours During Winter Break

If you're a frequent dining-market-lunch-goer, you may want to pack food from home for portions of winter break! All markets will be closed from December 23–January 1. January 2–14, the Flamingo Run in Gordon is open from 10am–5pm. All markets are closed on January 15, and Four Lakes & Gordon will be open January 16–19. Regular hours will resume on January 20.

HR News

Welcome, New Housing Employees!

Join us in welcoming many new staff to departments across the division!

Change to Benefit Deduction Schedule

Starting in 2024, the payroll deduction schedule for most benefits will be changing. Currently, benefit insurance premiums for most benefits are deducted one month prior to the coverage month (for example, deductions in November are for December coverage). Starting in 2024, benefit insurance premiums will be deducted in the same month as the coverage month (for example, deductions in January will be for January coverage). You do not need to take any action for this change.

2023 Year-End Payroll Reminders

With the end of the year approaching, take a moment to read through tax reminders, leave balance usage, direct deposit information, Kronos approval date changes, and Income Continuation Insurance information from the Housing Payroll team so you are prepared for the end of the year.

Babcock Dairy's 175th Commemorative Cheese

Cranniverscherry cheese was created as the official cheese of the UW–Madison's 175th anniversary celebration by mixing in ingredients from across Wisconsin: Door County tart cherries, Wisconsin Rapids cranberries and of course, milk from Wisconsin cows. Watch the cheese artisans at Babcock Dairy cook up the cheese of the year.
