Behind the Scenes: Preparing the Residence Halls

While this might be behind-the-scenes for some, many Housing staff are actually quite familiar with what it takes to get the residence halls ready for new students every August. Check out what Cody Gray, the Building Services Supervisor for Sellery, has to say about the keys to a successful move-in.

Naloxone Available Across Campus

In addition to the twelve Nalox-ZONE locations installed in the residence halls last year, students and staff can now access naloxone more widely on campus. A lifesaving medicine that can rapidly reverse an opioid overdose, naloxone can be found near residence hall desks, at Memorial Union and Union South, and University Apartments, among other locations. Providing access to naloxone on campus is part of UW–Madison’s strategy of supporting students experiencing drug and alcohol misuse.

Meet Your Health & Wellbeing Goals with Well Wisconsin

Well Wisconsin is here to help you meet your health and wellbeing goals. If you complete the program steps by the October 13, 2023, deadline, you will earn a $150 incentive. UW employees, retirees, and their spouses who are currently enrolled in the Wisconsin State Group Health Insurance plan are eligible to participate. Participants must complete a health assessment, health check, and one well-being activity. There is also a simplified process for people who do not have computer access, need language support, or find the online steps challenging to complete.

What is Your Escape Route?

September is Fire Safety Month, and it's important to be familiar with the building evacuation route signage and plans for your office, building, or area in the event of a fire. You can find this signage mounted on a wall near your location. You should know where to find the nearest fire extinguisher, too. Take a moment to be prepared...just in case!
Related: Stop by a Fire Safety Month at University Apartments or Library Mall this month for demos and information on staying safe in case of fire.

Find Campus COVID-19 Information

University Health Services (UHS) has developed a new COVID-19 information page on their website with information related to guidance, testing, vaccination, and when to seek care. This page is in addition to the general page about colds and upper respiratory infections. Earlier this week, the covidresponse.wisc.edu web page was retired. Students and employees seeking information about COVID-19, including what to do if you have symptoms or if you are seeking a vaccine, should visit the new UHS COVID-19 page. UHS continues to maintain disease surveillance for COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses to monitor trends and provide timely campus updates and guidance as needed.
