Practicing sustainability: Trash & recycling
In Housing, we prioritize keeping items out of landfills. You can help contribute to waste reduction by disposing your trash and recycling appropriately:
- Take all trash and recycling to the designated disposal centers outside your residence hall.
- Avoid "wishcycling" and only recycle items that you know are recyclable. Ensure items are dry and free of residue.
- Avoid overfilling trash bags to prevent spillage into the environment
- Break down cardboard to conserve space in the recycling dumpster

Maintenance Minute: Understanding egress maps
Does this map look familiar? egress maps
provide layouts of your residence hall and where you are in your building. They also help you to locate exits, evacuation routes, fire alarms and extinguishers, AEDs, and inclement weather shelter areas. If you haven't already, take a look at the map inside of your room to make sure you know where to go in case of an emergency.

Where do the UW-Madison waffles come from?
You may have fixed yourself up a waffle featuring the famous UW crest before, but have you ever wondered how that waffle came to be? It turns out, the waffle irons designed to include the UW crest are manufactured by Carbon's Golden Melted, the same producer of the waffle mix supplied at each dining unit! This has been a campus tradition
since 2004, and doesn't appear to be going anywhere anytime soon!
