Maintenance Minute: Electrical Safety in Your Room
|
As used to electricity as we are, it’s easy to overlook the hazards it can bring. Improper use of outlets, power strips, phone chargers, or any item that uses voltage can pose a serious fire hazard in your residence hall room or anywhere. Here are a few tips to keep you safe electrically.

Save the Trees, Use the Hammock Garden
|
Urban trees help to filter air and water, control storm water, conserve energy, and provide shade and animal habitat. They add beauty, form, and structure to urban landscapes while reducing noise and creating spaces for social interactions. The urban environment of our campus can be a challenging place for trees to thrive, so we ask that you use the hammock garden between
Kronshage Residence Hall and Lake Mendota when you want a moment of peace outdoors.

Respecting Everyone's Elevator Usage
|
Every year, many residents and staff are shamed when using elevators to go up or down from lower level floors. Elevators are meant to be accessible for everyone, and all reasons are valid for why someone uses them, such as convenience, carrying items, non-apparent medical conditions, physical impairments, recovery from surgery or chemotherapy, stairwell anxiety due to trauma, low visibility, or just because. We don’t know everyone’s reason or story, but we should respect each other.

This year’s theme, Amor Sin Fronteras (“Love Without Borders” in Spanish), focuses on the interrelation of cultures across Latin America and the United States — and how they continue to evolve. The Latine Heritage Month
Planning Committee has created spaces that honor the stories, traditions, and resilience of Latin American communities, serving as a testament to the beauty of unidade (“unity” in Portuguese).

Inclusive Language Series
|
Today we are exploring learning and unlearning without guilt. But what does that mean? Sometimes when we learn about new identities and experiences, we may struggle to unlearn or shift behavior and can experience feelings of guilt during the learning process.
