Amid Changes in Student Life, Constants Remain

Through the decades, students on campus walk the same streets, live in the same residence halls, and likely sat in many of the same classrooms as today, but things have changed a little bit. From pen and paper to laptops and tablets, coursework is a very different experience now than it used to be. Still, we sing "Varsity" at every football game like students have always done. Look through the familiar history of student life.

Fudge Bottom Pie & A History of Other UW–Madison Favorites

Badgers have always had their go-to dish, dessert, or even place to get food since 1848. From homestyle favorites to classic cheese curds and pretzels — not to mention the everlasting fudge bottom pie (a Chef Carson Gulley original and masterpiece) — the food students find on campus has always been prepared thoughtfully and with care. Read through to see one of Housing's very own pastry chefs prepare a fudge bottom pie.

Inclusive Language: Fatphobia & Diet Culture

In the Inclusive Language Series this week, we're learning more about fatphobia and diet culture. "Fat" isn’t a bad word. However, our environments are created and maintained to exclude fat bodies and perpetuate fatphobia. Fatphobia impacts all people, whether that is seen in inaccessible spaces or diet culture. We can learn how to create more accessible spaces and interactions that deconstructs fatphobia in our society.
